Wool heroesThe farmers that tend to sheep that grow the wool are Wool Heroes.

The pioneering settlers that imported sheep and through all types of hardship established the first flocks in the 1800’s and continued to develop technology and advanced breeds of sheep that matched our great climate were heroes of our time.

The sporting heroes of wool

The Shearers of New Zealand that harvest the wool are the heroes our nation.

In the early 1960’s a group of young farmers got together to establish a sheep shearing competition. Hundreds came to Masterton to showcase their sporting prowess, and the competition was a fierce and the spectators were enthralled.

The Golden Shears competition is so successful that 50 years on, the championship still attracts competitors from all around the world.

At The Wool Shed you will be able to view the international wall of fame, read their stories and start to understand the tremendous physicality and supreme skill it takes to become a champion.
